DGMV token-Best Practices to store your Secret Recovery Phrase

  1. Storing the Recovery Phrase Offline

Keeping your recovery phrase on any device connected to the internet poses a significant risk of potential access by hackers. Storing it offline eliminates the possibility of malicious users gaining access to your crypto asset keys.

Creating multiple copies of your crypto keys as backups and dispersing them across various locations ensures accessibility even in the event of a natural disaster such as fire, flood, or cyclone.

  1. Splitting Your Seed Phrase

A common approach among cryptocurrency users is to split each word of their seed phrase and store them in different places.

The recovery phrase, typically consisting of 12 to 24 random words, is impossible for anyone to guess, providing security for your digital wallet. Nonetheless, splitting and dispersing the recovery phrase further enhances its security. This can be done physically and virtually, with physical copies being the safer option over digital ones.

  1. Utilizing a Hard Drive

Storing your recovery phrase offline on a hard drive or USB stick offers convenience and portability for accessing your crypto keys when connected to your computer. However, there are downsides to this method.

Hard drives or USB drives lack inherent security measures. To enhance security, storing the drive in a secure location, such as a safe or safety deposit box, is advisable. Additionally, splitting the recovery phrase and storing it on multiple hard drives adds an extra layer of security.

However, be cautious as if a criminal gains possession of your hard drive or USB stick, they could potentially compromise your cryptocurrency assets by accessing and wiping your account.

Avoid storing your seed phrase on a hard drive used for other purposes to prevent the risk of leaving it unattended and vulnerable.

  1. Solid Steel Backup

While writing down the recovery phrase on paper offers protection from hackers, paper is not the most durable material. Its quality deteriorates over time, risking the readability of the seed phrase, especially if the ink fades. Paper backups can also be susceptible to fire damage. Hence, employing solid steel backups is advisable for increased durability and protection.
